Rest of World Fellowship for Journalists Worldwide

An exciting opportunity has been curated for reporters from regions outside the Western world by the Rest of World. It’s an opportunity for these reporters to contribute to a great initiative that involves exploring the intersection of technology and labor.

This opportunity comes with the support of Ford Foundation and it is the second edition of the Labor x Tech reporting initiative. This program aims to delve deeper into how emerging tech companies and technologies are reshaping the nature of work globally.

Requirements

Rest of World is seeking 12 reporters from diverse regions to produce a series of stories over a 12-month period, focusing on the ways technology is impacting labor. As part of the Labor x Tech Contributor Network, journalists will work closely with an editor to develop regular stories and engage in broader cross-regional projects, workshops, and training sessions.

The ideal candidates should have a basic understanding of their local tech and business landscapes, with a particular focus on reporters from Indonesia, the Philippines, Bangladesh, UAE, Turkey, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Colombia, and Brazil.

Benefits

• Contributors will be expected to publish four stories between November 1, 2024, and October 31, 2025.
• Each contributor will receive a total of $5,000 for their four stories.
• Rest of World will cover all expenses related to reporting, including travel costs.

1. A resume attached to the email.
2. A 300-350 word description in the email body outlining the most significant issue affecting tech workers in your community and why it would make a compelling story. Be as specific as possible, providing an idea you’re eager to begin reporting on right away.
3. Links to two relevant stories you’ve published, along with an explanation of your role in shaping those stories, the challenges you faced, and how you overcame them.
