AREF Research Development Fellowship for African Researchers

Emerging leaders in Africa that are presently addressing significant challenges in human health, there’s an opportunity for you to enhance your research skills. This opportunity has been designed by the African Research Excellence Fund (AREF) Research Development Fellowship

These leaders will be equipped in a top research institution in either the UK, Africa, or Europe and they’ll get the relevant skills needed to develop the health sector in their nation.

Eligibility Criteria

The fellowship is open to early-career researchers who are active in research, holding post-doctoral qualifications, and are nationals of, and employed in, African countries. Detailed eligibility criteria are available.

Fellowship Benefits

Participants will benefit from a three to nine-month placement at a top research institution in the UK, Europe, or Africa. This will be complemented by additional support at their home institution before and after the placement. The fellowship provides funding of up to £47,000.

Key Dates

• The fellowship is expected to commence between July 2025 and December 2025.
• The deadline for submission of all application documents is 13:00 GMT, 4 October 2024.
