Job Overview
As part of the legal team, the Attorney will provide comprehensive, business-oriented legal support to internal clients on a wide range of technical and commercial transactions, projects, regulatory issues, and advocacy initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the team to deliver legal support focused on technical and commercial transactions and projects.
- Provide general legal and commercial guidance on matters related to business segments and portfolios.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements.
- Advise clients on policy issues, including government legislation, regulations, and rules.
- Support advocacy initiatives by helping develop strategy and engage key stakeholders.
- Assist with the implementation and operationalization of the Petroleum Industry Act.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience: 5-10 years post-call to the Nigerian Bar, with significant industry experience, particularly in oil and gas transactions. Must have experience drafting, negotiating, and advising clients on legal matters.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) – Minimum of Second Class Honours, Upper Division.
- Barrister at Law (B.L.) from the Nigerian Law School – Minimum of Second Class Honours, Lower Division.
- A Master’s degree is an advantage.
Leadership and Skills
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across functional and organizational lines, including with regulatory bodies and government stakeholders.
- Strong technical proficiency and thorough job knowledge.
- Self-motivated, capable of working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, and able to engage with internal business clients, colleagues, and external counsel.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
