Are you a research fellow in African Studies seeking for an opportunity to contribute your research skills? The Cadbury Research Fellowship Scheme is currently seeking a researcher who would participate in research and teaching activities for a duration of 18 months.
This fellowship opportunity is funded by an endowment aimed at enabling a collaboration between the University of Birmingham and sub-Saharan African universities. Role Summary
- Focus on conducting high-quality research and publications in African Studies within the arts, humanities, or social sciences.
- Regional expertise on any area of Sub-Saharan Africa or its diaspora, with a preference for candidates with expertise on Ghana.
- Contribute to the research environment of the Department, School, and University.
- Analyze and interpret research findings and results.
- Engage in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels as appropriate.
Main Duties
Responsibilities may include:
- Developing research objectives and proposals, potentially in collaboration with a mentor.
- Contributing to writing bids for research funding.
- Analyzing and interpreting data to develop new intellectual understanding.
- Disseminating research findings through publication and seminars.
- Supervising research-related work and providing guidance to PhD students.
- Contributing to research-related activities and administration within the Department/School.
- Engaging in enterprise, business development, and public engagement activities.
Requirements
Essential:
- Currently based on the African continent and affiliated with an African Higher Education Institution.
- Candidates must either not hold a permanent academic position or be released by their home institution for the duration of their appointment at the University of Birmingham.
- A doctorate obtained between September 1, 2018, and April 1, 2024.
- A record of research and publications appropriate to post-doctoral experience.
Desirable:
- Experience in collaborative research activities and meeting deadlines.
- Awareness of current policy issues and contacts with civil society organizations.
Applicants should submit a full CV, a cover letter outlining their skills and experience, a research proposal for the Cadbury Research Fellowship period, a writing sample of up to 10,000 words, and details of two referees.
