Energy startups across Africa, an exciting opportunity has been made available for you with the Startup Energy Camp. It is an intensive program which will take place between October 18 to 23, 2024, in Nairobi.

During this program, up to 12 visionary founders will be present to further develop their clean energy innovations. There will be interactive sessions, networking, training, and tailored workshops.

What to Expect at the Energy Camp:

  • Funding Applications: Learn what funders are looking for to enhance your application and proposal success rates.
  • Customer-Focused Product Development: Refine your product to better meet customer needs.
  • Exploring Sales Channels: Identify and utilize the best sales channels for your business.
  • Building a Dynamic Team: Discover effective strategies for assembling and managing a strong team.
  • Financial Planning Essentials: Gain critical insights into financial planning and management.
  • Pitching to Investors/Partners: Master the art of presenting your startup to investors and potential partners.

Fellowship:

The camp will conclude with an international Demo Day (online), providing you the opportunity to pitch your solution to a global audience of investors, organizations, and corporatives. As a Fellow of Startup|Energy, you’ll continue to receive support, including:

  • Tailored Coaching: Post-camp, you will receive specific support for the further development of your startup.
  • Global Exposure: Present your startup at our online pitch event to an international audience.
  • Exclusive Expert Webinars: Participate in webinars with industry experts.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible, startups must meet the following criteria:

1. Business Sector: Your startup must provide a product or service for the decentralized energy market in sub-Saharan Africa, such as:

  • Energy production or distribution
  • Storage systems
  • Energy solutions or services for health, education, water, sanitation, consumption, mobility, agriculture
  • Energy-efficient products and services
  • Financing solutions
  • Measuring and control systems
  • Recycling/repurposing

2. Type of Product/Service:

  • Development of a new product/service with a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), or
  • Significant improvement of an existing product/service, or
  • Introduction of a known product/service into new markets

3. Location: Headquarters registered in sub-Saharan Africa

4. Majority of Shares: Owned by African nationals or non-Africans permanently residing in Africa

5. Experience: At least one founder with a minimum of 2 years of business experience

6. Status: MVP ready, with existing pilot customers or a realized pilot project

7. Independence: Not a branch or franchise of an international company

8. Age of Product/Service: No more than 10 years old

9. Investment: Not yet received over 500k euros from investors
