UNICEF Home-Based Internship for Graduate Students & Recent Graduates
By Janet
Graduate students and recent graduates who are interested in a fully remote, full-time internship program focused on advancing climate resilience and youth empowerment, the UNiCEF Home-Based Internship is that opportunity for you. If you’re passionate about environmental justice, urban development, or youth-led action, this is a unique chance to contribute to the global Generation Unlimited (GenU) initiative through Green Rising, a flagship UNICEF programme.
About the UNICEF Home-Based Internship
As part of UNICEF’s Programme Group, this internship centers on the expansion of Green Rising—an initiative mobilizing millions of young people for climate action—into slums and informal urban settlements. With over 500 million children currently living in slums, and that number projected to double by 2050, this work could not be more urgent.
Green Rising focuses on equipping youth with the tools to lead environmental change through advocacy, volunteerism, and green skills development, and this internship plays a crucial role in integrating the programme into underserved urban communities.
Responsibilities
Interns will work with the Programme Group Director’s Office and across global teams to help:
- Research and map youth-led environmental actions in slums
- Draft internal briefings, updates, and communications for leadership and partners
- Coordinate with UNICEF HQ, regional, and country offices to identify pilot countries
- Develop supporting materials such as presentations, backgrounders, and concept notes
- Curate stories and case studies from youth in informal settlements
- Support knowledge management, including organizing content and contributing to monitoring and evaluation planning
