The MIT Emerging Talent Certificate in Computer and Data Science (CDS) is a one-year online learning program specifically for students. This program is offered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). It’s goal is to educate talented learners to be suitable for the employment field.

The categories of people eligible for this program include refugees, migrants, and first-generation low-income students from historically marginalized and underdeveloped communities worldwide.

For this year’s cohort, MIT is creating an initiative that grants beneficiaries a Certificate in Computer and Data Science. Learners that are accepted for the MIT Emerging Talent will start in the Foundations Track. This track focuses on acquiring important skills in mathematics, human skills, digital literacy, and the fundamentals of computer science. These foundational skills will prepare learners for the next phase of the Certificate program.

Eligibility Requirements

MIT welcomes applications from:

• Refugees, internally displaced persons, and individuals impacted by forced migration worldwide.
• Women and individuals with refugee, asylee, or internally displaced status are given priority, with a significant number of reserved positions.
• Low-income first-generation individuals are also eligible to apply.

Restrictions

• Due to OFAC sanctions, residents of the following countries are not eligible: Iran, Cuba, Syria, North Korea, and the Crimea, Donetsk People’s Republic, or Luhansk People’s Republic areas of Ukraine. However, individuals from these countries living elsewhere are eligible to apply.
• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Program Details

• The Foundations Track starts in mid-November 2024 and lasts two months. During this track, learners will acquire key foundational skills in tech-related fields.
• Following the Foundations Track, selected learners will advance to the Certificate Program, where they will engage in MITx’s rigorous courses on computer and data science.
• The program includes hands-on projects and access to a global mentorship network to help learners succeed in their tech careers.
