ICFJ/WHO Road Safety Reporting Competition
The ICFJ/WHO Road Safety Reporting Competition aims to support journalists in producing impactful stories that highlight the often-overlooked issue of road traffic deaths and injuries, particularly in countries most affected by these tragedies.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), road traffic crashes claim nearly 1.2 million lives annually—equivalent to more than two fatalities every minute. Road crashes are also the leading cause of death among children and young adults aged 5–29. The Road Safety Reporting Competition and Awards, implemented by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and supported by the FIA Foundation Richard Stanley Memorial Grant and WHO, aim to raise awareness and foster dialogue on critical road safety issues. The program is funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies.
