ICFJ/WHO Road Safety Reporting Competition
Journalists across the world have been invited to apply for the ICFJ/WHO Road Safety Reporting Competition. This opportunity has been organized to help journalists produce impactful stories that describe the issues of road traffic deaths and injuries that others mostly overlook. This is especially in countries that are often affected by these tragedies.
Road traffic accidents claim close to 1.2 million lives annually, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), and this is equivalent to more than two fatalities every minute. The leading cause of death among children and young adults between ages 5 to 29 is road accidents.
The Road Safety Reporting Competition and Awards which is the initiative of the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and supported by the FIA Foundation Richard Stanley Memorial Grant and WHO, aim to raise awareness and foster dialogue on critical road safety issues. The program is funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies.
