Commonwealth Youth Awards in Development Work

Young individuals between the age of 15 and 29 years old have the opportunity to be recognized and celebrated through the Commonwealth Youth Awards. These individuals should have been making impactful and sustainable development projects in their communities.

The Commonwealth Youth Awards is hosted by the Commonwealth Youth Program which has a mission to empower young people to participate in and contribute to sustainable development, democracy and human rights.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nominees must have been involved in development work for at least 12 months, either professionally or as volunteers.
  • They must be citizens of a Commonwealth member country, with their development work taking place in one of these nations.
  • Nominees should be between 15 and 29 years of age by December 31, 2024.
  • Self-nominations are allowed, or candidates can be nominated by someone who can accurately describe their work.

Awards Process

  • Four finalists will be selected from each region, with the top entry in each region receiving the Regional Winner Award.
  • One of the Regional Winners will be named Commonwealth Young Person of the Year 2025 and will receive the Pan-Commonwealth Award.
  • Each of the 20 Regional Finalists will receive a grant of £1,000, along with a trophy and a certificate.
  • The 5 Regional Winners will be awarded an additional £2,000, bringing their total grant to £3,000, alongside a trophy and certificate.
  • The Pan-Commonwealth Winner will be awarded an extra £2,000, making a total of £5,000, in addition to a trophy and certificate.

Additionally, the Khalili Foundation will present three Youth PEACE Awards to young individuals working on peace and development projects. The Commonwealth Foundation may also provide extra grants based on eligibility.

Winners will be officially announced during Commonwealth Week in March 2025.
